Raphael, a Caribbean-American originally from Barbados, is an intelligent, theatrical 19 year old man. He is a star tenor, a part-time model, a survivor of physical and emotional abuse, and a Black man living in a predominantly Caucasian state. Raphael is
struggling to understand his sexuality in a time when the gay life he is drawn to is hated by much of society. Add AIDS, the media, adolescent cruelty, love and hormones to the mix, and Raphael represents a powerful verbal and visual portrait of teen sexuality in the age of AIDS.
